Gites de Vergne is nestled within the tiny hamlet of Vergne in the Poitou-Charente department in southwestern France – a collection of red-roofed tiled, stone cottages surrounded by open countryside with fields of sunflowers and maize stretching as far as the eye can see. This beautiful, Charentais house is set within a garden of established trees, an orchard filled with apple, pear, plum and cherry trees with its own private swimming pool. The accommodation comprises of a private, self-sufficient gite and a quaint L’Abri de Berger (shepherds hut).
The Gites are wonderfully situated, peacefully rural, with a wealth of sites, activities and attractions close by.
The market town of Civray, with a 12th century Romanesque church, situated on the Charente river is within walking/cycling distance from the house, holding markets twice weekly.
As well as having the traditional independent shops, there is the convenience of an intermarche less than a mile away.
Walking, cycling, canoeing in a tranquil setting is on the doorstep with a plethora of unspoilt, historic villages/towns to explore within easy reach.
Ideally situated for those wanting to relax it is the perfect retreat to recharge worn-out, urban batteries. Enjoy fresh produce from the market, swim, walk and sample the local Pineau – a regional aperitif.
